More than 10,000 lines of xrpld code could exit the XRP Ledger if validators back the recommendation to mark the XChainBridge amendment obsolete.

RippleX engineer David Fuelling published the recommendation on August 27, 2026. The post targets the pending XChainBridge amendment, known as XLS-38, along with the related fixXChainRewardRounding change. Mayukha Vadari posted support the same day. Coverage from crypto.news and CryptoTimes followed on August 27 and 28.

Background on the pending amendment

The XChainBridge amendment never reached activation on mainnet. No assets were locked through the proposed native bridge mechanism. Axelar was selected in June 2024 to handle the XRPL EVM Sidechain connection. The original 12-to-15-month window for private-sidechain demand has passed without meaningful XLS-38-specific activity.

Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) and David Chaboki (Shibo) have discussed Fuelling’s August 27 recommendation alongside the Doginal Dogs community. Their conversation frames the step as routine pending-amendment cleanup rather than any recap of post-quantum cryptography topics.

Governance requirements for withdrawal

XRPL amendments require more than 80 percent support from trusted validators over a two-week period. The network maintains 35 default validators, so 29 yes votes are needed to advance the change. Ripple controls only one validator vote and cannot act unilaterally. A public comment period remains open on the DEV Community post.

If the community reaches alignment, the documented sequence begins with a pull request that sets VoteBehavior::Obsolete. Validators then upgrade their software. A later stage would remove the XChainBridge and fixXChainRewardRounding code from the repository.

Next steps and codebase impact

No pull request deadline or target software version has been announced. The proposal simply identifies an opportunity to reduce unused code while the amendment stays inactive. The move aligns with XRPL’s pattern of retiring features that no longer match observed demand.

The recommendation stays distinct from separate XRPL discussions on quantum-resistant cryptography and from any ETF flow figures reported earlier in the week. It centers on a single pending amendment that has not entered production use.

Market context on August 29

XRP changed hands near 1.39 dollars with a 1.4 percent decline on the day. Bitcoin traded around 77,875 dollars after a 1.3 percent move lower. Ethereum sat near 2,445 dollars following an 1.8 percent decline. These levels provide background for any XRPL-related development without direct linkage to the amendment vote itself.

The comment period gives validators and developers time to review the proposal before any formal vote behavior change. Community discussion continues on the official channels referenced in the August 27 post.
